A handicap in golfing terms is the number of strokes that a player subtracts from his total score for a round. It's basically a way to level out the playing field. For example a player with a handicap of 6, would subtract 6 strokes off his stroke play score at the end.By joining a private golf club, you will have the option, (if you wish) to have a handicap. You simply have to submit usually 3-5 scorecards of general play, the professional or competition secretary will be able to help you with this. This handicap will allow you to play in club competitions, where you can then try to lower your handicap, thus becoming a better player. Any serious golfer should be carrying an official handicap around with them. You don't literally carry it around with you... it's usually in the clubhouse on the board with all other members.

Practice FacilitiesMost private golf clubs with have their own practice facilities such as driving nets, practice greens etc. These will become available for you to use at any time. So when you don't have the time to play a full round, you can just head to the course and practice. You'll usually find somebody else there to practice with too. Much better than just wasting time at a driving range with compressed golf balls that don't feel like they would off the club face in a real round.More practice means that handicap will drop lower and lower.Clubhouse FacilitiesYou'll have the use of a bar/restaurant, which usually gives you cheaper bar prices compared to guests who are not members. The clubhouse will have a locker room, so you can store your clubs in your own private locker. Something you would not get if you were not a member.ConfidenceBeing a member of a golf club will bring desired confidence in the fact that you are very familiar with the golf course over time. You will have a better game plan and know what lies ahead of you after each shot. You'll have a much better understanding whether you can get over certain hazards etc. This will cause you to become a better golfer. Some people could argue that playing different courses each week will improve your game more due to the variety of shots that will lie ahead of you, but if the course you join is already a pretty tough course, for example, it is hilly, or tends to be windy a lot then you are on to a winner because most other courses you will play will tend to be easier.Social EventsThere is always something going on socially; Special golf tournaments such as Presidents Day and Captains Day. Holiday events such as Christmas and New Year you can find parties that are hosted at the club venue. You can even use the clubhouse as a social meeting point for your friends and family.Unlimited GolfIf you didn't already know, being a full paying member will give you the ability to play golf unlimited amounts of times over the year; exactly what an improving golfer like you needs. It's certainly a great option for the golfer wanting to have unlimited golf and plenty of other perks. Everglades club
