The Barudan BEAT 900 Series was one of the last series of the long-running "BEAT Series" by Barudan. The 900 Series had the distinction of being PC-based with CPU, hard drive, floppy drives and a monitor. The 900 Series was manufactured from 1993 - 1996.
Barudan 900 Series Features
The 900 Series was a dramatic change from the Barudan BEAT 800 Series. The BEAT 900 series were 286 or 486 PC based and came with an SVGA color monitor and two disk drives (for reading and writing). As with other BEAT Series machines, these models included a keyboard for monogram lettering (and came with lettering fonts and editing software). The 900 series also came with a cap frame system.
900 Series Models
The Barudan 900 Series came in the Barudan BEAT 902 (2-head) and BEAT 906 (6-head) model. There were also 7-needle and 9-needle models. The Barudan models with YS were the 7-needle machines and the ZN models had 9 needles (these were the first 9-needle Barudan models produced).
The ZN Series feature inline needles (also called "flat-head" type) with individual take-up levers (see video below), and the YS Series featured the Barudan round needle geometry (also called "turret" style or "cylinder" style) with individual take-up levers (see video below). The turret-style heads were not very commonly used after around 1995.
900 Series Upgrade and Repair
The 900 series embroidery machines came with dual floppy disk drives which unfortunately had a high failure rate. However, the floppy drives can be replaced with a floppy disk emulator by PLRElectronics. PLRElectronics is one of the few companies that will repair/replace the hard drives and electronics on these older machines.
