Sara and Bob both get the same contract from a very large corporation willing to pay $10 per garment embroidered.  Bob is really happy because he paid the extra money for the starter kit and has a lot of thread to use, and lots of predigitized designs that he paid for.  Unfortunately for him, this corporation uses a teal green color that did not come with his starter kit.  Sara likewise did not buy the starter kit so both Bob and Sara have to buy thread.  They both buy plenty of spools to finish their contracts.  Unfortunately for Sara, she has two machines and has to buy double the thread.  Sara pays $30 for thread and Bob spends $15.

This company has an indefinite number shirts to embroider.  Their logo is one color and is 5000 stitches.

Since Bob and Sara both have the same models of machines, and are running identical logos, their machine run at the exact same speeds.

Lets assume a 5000 stitch logo in an absolute perfect world takes 5 minutes to embroidery.  To make the calculations easier lets assume that both Bob and Sara are able to hoop their garments while the machines are running so, there is no down time.  Again, this is a perfect world example.

In our perfect world example, our machines can do 12 items per hour.  That is approximately 100 items per day per machine.

After the first day of embroidery this large company comes in to collect their first set of embroidered shirts.  Bob delivers 100 items and Sara delivers 200 because she has 2 machines.

Bob nets $1000 and Sara nets $2000

Bob and Sara are really lucky because this company decides to use both of them for their embroidery work.  Sara and Bob have enough work to keep them busy all year.

Bob and Sara continue this routine for a year.  They work 225 days a year which is an average work year.  Sara has done 45,000 items and Bob has done 22,500.

Over the course of a year, Sara has embroidered 45,000 items at $10 each and nets $450,000.  Bob has done half that but still did really good at a net of $225,000.

However, both Bob and Sara -->
