The Floppy to USB drive was created in the early 2000s to replace floppy disks and disk drives which were quickly going into extinction. The Floppy to USB drive was created to be used to replace most every 3 1/2 floppy disk drive in existence. The Black Box device supports  both parallel (8-PTR) and serial (RS232C) interfaces. However, there are various types of connectors depending on the model of embroidery machine. Each connector is for a different type of machine input port.

The Floppy To USB upgrade is designed to replace most every 3 1/2 floppy disk drive.  The dimensions should be the same as a regular floppy drive and all the screw mounts should also match up to the existing chassis.

The drives have jumpers that are preset at the distributorshipIf the correct USB-XXXX code is used then the drive will plug right in and work without any issues.  However if the drive and jumpers do not match the original drive settings then to check the [http://www.plrelectronics.com/forum/ PLR Electronics Support Site] for the correct settings or any other troubleshooting issues.
The device uses the Tajima DST [[Embroidery software formats|Embroidery software format]]The designs should follow the standard Tajima Naming convention as mentioned at the [[Embroidery software formats]] page.


Some equipment manufactures decided to produce their own floppy drives or floppy drive housing rather than buying from the major disk drive producers such as IBM or SonyIn these vary rare cases the equipment might have to be slightly modified to accommodate a regular floppy drive.  In most every instance, its much cheaper to modify the equipment and upgrade the drive rather than to buy expensive and rare floppy drives that were only made in very short run.
If the device is causing any issues, first check that all connectors are solidWhen connecting the device to the machine both the machine and the device should be powered off and disconnected from the wall outlet.

The Embroidery Black Box is a device that reads USB sticks containing embroidery design files. The design files are transferred to embroidery machines via parallel or serial cables connected to the embroidery machine's data input port. The device is distributed by TheEmbroideryWarehouse and can be purchased at EMBAccess. The Black Box is the ideal solution for older embroidery machines without a built-in floppy disk drive. The device is "plug-and-play" in that it requires no software or drivers for installation.

Various cable connectors are available with the Black Box to suit a range of embroidery machines, but the device is sold with one connector.

The Black Box device supports both parallel (8-PTR) and serial (RS232C) interfaces. However, there are various types of connectors depending on the model of embroidery machine. Each connector is for a different type of machine input port.

The device works on the following embroidery machines: Barudan, Tajima, SWF, Happy, Toyota

Troubleshooting and Known Issues

The device uses the Tajima DST Embroidery software format. The designs should follow the standard Tajima Naming convention as mentioned at the Embroidery software formats page.

If the device is causing any issues, first check that all connectors are solid. When connecting the device to the machine both the machine and the device should be powered off and disconnected from the wall outlet.
